New Updates Coming

We are working behind the scenes on getting several new updates on Pikter.

We’ve been a bit quiet lately as we’ve been busy working on another site, but we haven’t forgot about Pikter. :)

A peak at a few updates:

The site is getting a bit of a face-lift.

Adding support for more sites such as Facebook and Tumblr.

There are a few other features in the works… we think you’ll like them. :)

Several Updates

It’s been a while since we’ve posted updates, but there are a slew of things that have been updated and added to Pikter.

Picasa Support
You now have the option of not only sharing your photos to Twitter and/or Jaiku, but also with Picasa!

How it works:
- You “grant access” to Pikter for your Picasa account (via your Dashboard)
- You send in your photo to your email address like normal and Pikter will send your photo to your Picasa account after posting to Twitter/Jaiku

Location of Pikter Link
We’ve also given you, the user, the opportunity to adjust where your Pikter link is located in the message that posts to your Twitter and/or Jaiku accounts.

You can place the link at the front or end of the message.

Front Example:

End Example:

To edit the location of the link, visit your dashboard. The option is located at the bottom of the front page of the Dashboard.

Permissions
You now have the ability to set permissions for:
- Non-Pikter user comments
- Public or Private photos
- Receive periodic emails from Pikter

This option is located under the Settings/Permissions page of the Dashboad.

Comments
Whenever a user comments on your photo, if both of you are Twitter users, that comment will show up as a reply (@username) in your Twitter stream.

Jaiku support for this feature is coming soon.

And last, but definitely not least…

Beta Invitation
We’ve opened the doors a bit wider. Spread the word and give out an invite for Pikter! Tell your friends to sign up with Pikter using the invite: sharepik.

Updates For You!

Here are the latest site updates:

Personal URL’s for Pikter Stream and RSS
Users now have their own personal URL’s for their Pikter photo streams and RSS feeds. They are as follows:

Pikter Stream: http://user.pikter.com/USERNAME
RSS Feed: http://rss.pikter.com/USERNAME

Dashboard with Pikter Stream
Add a nice carousel-type section of the Pikter Stream to the User Dashboard.

This will enable users to quickly find their photos and be able to edit/delete them.

Speaking of Delete…
Users now have the ability to delete their photos. To do so, simply visit the photo page of the photo you wish to delete, up at the top near the caption, you will see a round, red icon. That is the delete button.

Once you confirm deletion of the photo, it is GONE. For good.

Beta Invites
We still have a back log of requests for beta invites. Once we get through those, we’ll enable users to invite their friends.

Still more up our sleeve
We still have *several* more tweaks and features to add to the site that will be coming soon. So stay tuned.

Over the Weekend

We’ve been quite busy with the site!

Photo Commenting
Photo comments are now live and well… Pikter user or not, visitors to your photo on Pikter can now post comments. There are more features to be rolled out with this, but we’ve gotten the basics together, in place and it seems to be working smoothly. Let us know what you think!

Multi-Language Support
In getting the site ready for launch, we overlooked the fact that our scripts could not properly handle several languages (ie. Chinese, Japanese, etc.) and for that we apologize. We’ve fixed that issue and everyone should now be able to post in the language of their choice.

As mentioned previously, got some cool things in store for the site. Hang tight as we roll out the invites slowly.

Updates for the Week

Editing Photo Captions
Just finished an update so that users can update the photo captions after sharing their photo on Pikter. This will enable those of us who mess up every once and a while and spell things wrong… or if we just decide what we entitled the photo isn’t great… then guess what, it can now be changed!

To edit the photo caption, simply log in, visit the photo you’d like to edit (via your Pikter Stream) while viewing the photo’s individual page, click on the caption and you’ll be able to edit all you want. Enjoy!

Pikter Stream
All users photos are now “back-streamed” as in if you have more than 10 photos, you will have the option of viewing more than the previous 10. Small update, I know, but definitely worth mentioning.

RSS Stream
Pikter users have their own RSS Pikter Stream. The link is available on any of the user’s photo pages and is also listed on their dashboard.

Mobile Site
We are working on a mobile site (http://m.pikter.com). There is one currently in place but will require mobile devices that has xhtml parsing capabilities (ie. Pocket Internet Explorer). This will enable users to, say… view their Twitter feed, click on their friend’s Pikter link and it will take them to the mobile site instead of attempting to load the full Pikter website on their mobile device.

Public Comments
Allowing non-Pikter users to comment is a feature we are working on. Should be out soon.

We have a few more features coming soon… that, as far as we know, currently are not available any where else. Or, we could just be blind and are missing it.

Stay tuned.

Busy as a Worm

Unfortunately, because of various reasons, development of Pikter has been a bit slow. A few behind the scenes things have been in the works. However, Jaiku’s api development site has been down the last couple of days, hindering any opportunity to advance the Jaiku aspect of Pikter’s service.

Keep heart. We will not give up.

The private beta will commense shortly enabling you to share with others… because sharing is nice. :)

Almost there

Have been working long and hard on the user dashboard. It’s coming along nicely. Before the Beta invites are sent out, a few more bugs need to be squashed along with a few more tweaks that need to be tweaked.

The Beta will commense shortly… and you will not be disappointed.

Muahahahahahaha.
